PUPPY CULTURE PROGRAM
See this YouTube for the reasons we use the Puppy Culture Program. A Look Inside Puppy Culture www.PuppyCulture.com - YouTube
We have a specific program that starts in their early weeks, but also builds confidence and RESILIANCE both physically and emotionally for life.
Potty/Litter Box Training
Our puppies start litter box training at 3 weeks old. Yes! 3 weeks old! The method we use serves many purposes. The two most important ones are to keep their whelping box CLEAN, and to teach them from the very start that there is a PLACE to go potty! This is a massive help to families when their puppy comes home, and they start implementing outside potty training.
Crate Introduction
Your puppy will be introduced to the crate before they come home. We say "introduced" because they have been with or in close proximity to their litter mates while in the crate. Going to their new homes is always a bit scary but with love, consistency and time every puppy settles in fast and many sleep through the night in their crate from day one.
Proper Socialization
Having been trained with a dog behavioralist we are well aware of the socialization needs of puppies, but the right kind by the right things especially at this tender young age! We have Grandpa Ruger who is a unicorn of the most perfect and patient old guys ever, and our females all are kind and gentle with all the babies. We also have a resident puppy trainer cat who is always around! Of course, gentle interaction with people and children as well to build trust and security with people.
Schedule
Our puppies are on a normal family schedule from the day they are born. There is daytime, and then there is nighttime, to SLEEP! We put our momma and puppies to bed every night on a normal schedule and this helps when they go home. If puppies are allowed to do whatever whenever they want their day and night can get messed up. This is helpful when they come home to their new families. They are already accustomed to day and night schedule.
Exposure to Environments and Sounds
Our puppies start out in our home (usually next to my bed) and have a calm environment for mom and puppies to recover and grow. Once they are old enough, they start to have time in other parts of the house, patio and eventually in the puppy play yard outside, but always come into the puppy room at night, when we are away, or it is too cold/hot outside. The puppy room is a bedroom we made just for our puppies in our house. We make an effort to vacuum, have normal household noises like doors opening and closing, kitchen noises, talking, TV, all things that go on in a household. We also play puppy desensitization video with things like other animal sounds, thunder and lightning, music, even fireworks and other loud sounds they will likely encounter in life. This helps them be confident when they come home. If we just had them in a 4ft x 4ft box for 8-10 weeks they would come home terrified of the new big scary world. We are proud of our confident pups going on their big adventure of life with their families. I always say slow and easy is the best way with young puppies. Experiencing all these simple but important things while still with their littermates helps them slowly but surely build lasting confidence.
Proper VET Check and Vaccinations
All of our puppies have a through vet check, age-appropriate vaccinations and worming prior to coming home. The vaccinations are given by our vet. You will receive a puppy letter of health from our vet for your puppy as well as an official vaccination record and schedule for you to complete vaccinations.
Temperament Evaluations
Because our puppies are raised in our home and we personally care for them from the start, we have a keen understanding of their budding personalities, their strengths and weakness. Dogs have personalities, they have incredible strengths and areas that as an individual maybe are not as strong. We can help you choose the best personality to suit your family's lifestyle and needs. Having been trained in temperament testing for service and therapy puppy picks, we know what to look for to gather the most information possible at this young age for the best fit for your home.
Health testing
See in the section below about the importance we put on health testing our parent dogs to ensure we only provide healthy pups for our Doodle Family.
~Over 40 years combined experience in breeding, genetics (health, color and coat) and breed expertise. Grandma Ruth is the poodle lady, I am the Golden Retriever lady, and of course we are both doodle ladies now!
~We are a small breeding program with our parent dogs as our family members. Our dogs live in our homes, just like your puppy will with you! They have outside property to run and play on. They all live together as a happy, healthy pack family. They are socialized and in our home with us every day, and we always have one or two on their bed next to ours through the night. No big line of kennels and barking, stir crazy, board dogs here! An enriching loving environment is always our priority for puppies and our parent dogs.
HEALTH TESTING
We have extensive education in DNA and OFA testing. We only bred dogs that will NOT produce puppies with genetic health conditions. Our health guarantee covers this as a safety net for our families. We have not had a single hip, elbow, eyer or heart condition reported to us in all our years of breeding. This is due to health testing BEFORE breeding! With the ever-growing access to more advanced health testing, we are able to choose the best pairings in parent dogs to produce physically strong family and service/therapy working dogs!
~TRAINGING! Having trained working police K9's and service/therapy dogs we have an extensive training background. We are always a resource for your training needs for the life of your dog. Having training in temperament testing we are able to have an educated knowledge of our parent dogs' strengths and weaknesses. We will not breed a dog that has any level of aggression, resource guarding, anxiety, overly excitable, too high of a prey drive, not easily socialized with other dogs and in public, or is stubborn and hard to train. Our goal in breeding is to produce healthy, kind, and trainable dogs for families and service/therapy work.
Lifetime Breeder Support
We are here for the life of your dog! We have many families we are in touch with and have been for YEARS. We want updates. We want to know if you have hit a training struggle and need guidance. We want to know all the ups and even if there are downs with your dog. We call our families our Doodle Family. We care about you and your dogs! If we can help, or you just want to brag, we are here! We will pick up the phone even after your puppy comes home to you.
~Long term relationships working with and for vets who have been both mentors and educators has been invaluable to our program and knowing how to put our parent dogs and puppies' best interest first without exception.
